Welcome! Congratulations on taking the first step to learn the fun and rewarding hobby of crochet. It's affordable, transportable, and endlessly creative. Plus, in this time of escalating anxiety, it's a calming and meditative hobby.
Crochet is relatively easy to learn. The more you practice, the better you get. That said, building a firm foundation of the basics is essential. While YouTube videos are great, there's nothing like learning the basics in-person and getting your questions answered.
So let's get started! I offer a variety of lessons and learning options described below.
Back when I was a girl, I tried my hand at crochet. I remember how frustrated I was that every time I tired to crochet a square it turned into a messy triangle. My mother knit so she couldn't help. Crochet and knitting are worlds apart in my experience. It wasn't until college that I again tried, with very limited success, to finally create a square. And that's as far as it went.
Then many years later, a co-worker and friend offered to teach me and a few others how to crochet. It finally clicked! What I thought was a starting slip knot was corrected. The first time I tried to read a pattern my friend guided me through the strange abbreviations and asterisks. I was hooked!
Crochet, besides a being fun and creative, helped me successful manage another area of my life: anxiety. Crochet by it's very nature is calming, meditative, and helps you focus your mind and energies on the present. You can do it almost anywhere at any time. Learning to crochet is was a wonderful gift and that's why I'm teaching it today.
